Is it Official?
Firmware version 7.100 (and 7.300) is stated as Official on some Samsung sites and in some areas and not others. It should work fine for your YP-55 as it has for myself and many other people, though I cannot give you a 100% guarantee. If you have any problems then be sure to check out the FAQ and if you can't find your answer there then feel free to post your problem on the forum. For more info on it being on the Official Samsung Sites see my replies to this post.
Is possible to edit the Firmware?
Yes. Check the forum, there are various posts about changing the Introductory Logos and to actually edit what each button on the YP-55 does. If you have any questions about this, feel free to post them there.

- Remembers your position in the file longer over many different play modes
- Keeps track of last file played before it was hooked up to the computer rather than just the position number
- Gap between tracks still exists
- POW still only 25 seconds max
- No 'exit' command in the Sleep / Time function selection menu
(within Power Off Menu)
- When encoding at 32 or 48 kbps and using the Auto Sync function it does not actually let you hear what is being recorded. When the intial file ends as the first gap is detected the next file and all subsequent ones are recorded silently.
- Study Play Mode added - It seems to allow you to rewind or fast forward 1-99 seconds within a file (or to the beginning or ending of the current file if you are near the start or end of the file) each time you twist the top instead of either jumping to the next file or rewinding right to the beginning of the current file as it still does in the Normal Play Mode.
- After recording from VOICE or Line-In in Playlist or Music Mode it goes to Voice or Line-In Enc mode respectively after its done recording instead of staying in Playlist or Music mode as before (This used to be a Bug, but it is recongized now to fit with the YP-55 turning on after being connected to the computer and other such settings which allow the User to Confirm the recording took place sucessfully right away)
- Always beeps on Player startup, even if its disabled.
- Sleep Mode added - It is somewhat inconvient to get to and is not saved after the player shuts down. Note though that it, reportedly, does not work while in Radio Mode.
- Various Updates, added a Nav Mode for the Playlist and some stability fixes. 7.300 is now the recommended version.
Tips:
- To get to the Navigation Function, hold down the WOW Button for more than 2 seconds in Music Mode. This also lets you see the files in Playlist mode, though I haven't found a way to change the order of the songs other than by renaming the files.
- To format your 7.100 Upgraded YP-55 just use the standard Windows format utility - it can now be safely formatted to FAT32.
- Be sure to check the FAQ section of this site if have any other problems or questions about the new Firmware and post in the Forum if you cannot find an answer to your issue
2. Uninstall all previous Yepp software (excluding Lyric Station)
3. Extract the zip archive you downloaded and run the Setup.exe program in it.
2. Hold down the YP-55's 'Play' Button for 3 seconds and then complete the connection. Continue holding down the 'Start' button until you see a message saying 'Recovery Device Detected.' If nothing happens for more than 1 minute, then start up the Firmware program - if it detects it then let go of the button.
3. Start up the new Firmware program you just installed (Note that it is different from older yepp' upgrade packages but not by too much)
4. Follow the on-screen prompts and read everything carefully to make sure you understand, if you do this wrong it has the potential to kill your Player.
5. Relax and wait. The status bar will probably get stuck once or twice while installing but don't panic, thats normal. It shouldn't taken more than 1 or 2 minutes to complete the upgrade.
6. Enjoy the new features of Firmware version 7.100 : )
