Yepp Pictures

Here is the latest set of pics, of my YP-55V 2.5 years when these were taken, one pic of my C1Z which I ended up returning after a short time, and my brand new YP-55X. Posted March 4th, 2005.

The YP-C1Z (1 GB), YP-55V (256mb) and its case from a January 19th. I returned the C1 a few days later because it lacked many of the features, such as multiple file tracking, which the older YP-55 series supports.

The YP-55X, 512mb capacity - fresh from the mail from Germany. Thanks all who gave your opinions and ideas on this, it most most appreciated. The packaging was very different from my original YP-55V. It was openable for one, but it seemed to have been sealed when I got it. Yes, you guys may remember I ordered a silver/blue YP-55, but I ended up with a silver/copper one. I can't complain though, it looked beige in some of the pics I've seen but it looks great in real life and I'm happy with it. Just glad I didn't get an orange one : ).

You'll also wee the cases have changed greatly from the old kind for the YP-55. I've always wanted one of these new ones. It allows much easier access the controls, and I can use them even with the case full sealed, which is great. You'll notice though that this one is made in China, its true. The old one was from Korea, and I definitely thought at first that the materials for the new one were much cheaper - but it may be that after 2.5 years of use the 55v I have developed more of a metal feeling to its casing - the fresh one now feels sort of plastic, but its getting better as time goes on and I'm now confident it was resilent as the 55v was.

It's also quite a bit smaller than the YP-55V was in its case. I can't say though if its better protected or not, probably the cloth is better for impacts. But the cloth case made it so easy for the player to fall out on its way down unless the case was fully sealed, so if you wanted to change the volume or do anything to it you'd have to have the case open and therefore have the player vulnerable.

One big advantage is the new strap on this case. You can easily and securely attach it to your belt without fear of it losing its grip or falling out of the case, as was the...case with the 55V case.

It opens up, giving access to the Line-In Encoding cable slot, which is one of the few things you can't get at right away - the old case required you to take the player out completely to reach it.

Finally though, the bad thing about the case. It's really tight. It was so tight that when I first put it in, the 55X had the small very thin plastic screen cover on it and that got completely twisted off as the player went into its case. It makes it quite difficult to get the thing in and out. Which would be fine if you didn't have to take it out...ever. But you do, to get at the battery. So every 4 days or so I need to replace the rechargable battery in there, and take the entire player out of the case to do so. It's rather difficult and I've only done it once since I got the 55x this week. But even with this, it may be worth it. Only about 5 minutes of extra work at a week when changing the battery, saving at least that much time in having to open the velcro on the other case every time you want to use it. So with the convinience, if the thing lasts the at least the 2.5 years my V case has so far, then I'll be happy.

So thank's again everyone who gave me suggestions and advice. True it cost me a pretty penny, but I'm very happy now : ).

The following pics and competary were taken in the Summer of 2004 of my own YP-55V with the firmware version 7.100. Note that you can see a much larger version of any of these pictures by clicking on them.

My Closed Case - Note that I had to put some electrical tape over part of the velcro to stop it from getting stuck to the inside of my pockets on some of my shirts and pants.

There it is, my YP-55V. I keep it in its case as much as possible to help prevent any damage. I also have a home made LCD Screen cover over it to prevent scratching. Note that the Spare USB Plug just barely fits into its pocket, but it does allow for enough space to stick in a spare Bus Token, just in case.

The Secondary Menu in version 7.100, the Main Menu can be seen in the short video later on in this page. The Options in the Menu in this version are: Music - Voice - FM - FM Enc - Line Enc - Playlist. Note the absense of the Navigation option from 5.700.

The new Navigation function, reached by holding down the 'WOW' button while in Music Mode. It shows both what Directory you are in and the Filename (or Folder) currently selected.

The View after entering the folder shown in the previous snapshot.

Showing the new improved control over Volume while recording from Voice, FM or Line-In.

Hooked into the Computer with the USB Cable and showing the correct Firmware version (7.100).

My portable sound system, ready to grab and go.

The short 50 second videoclip I shot of my YP-55V in action. It shows the increased speed of the interface along with the new Menu set up. Click Here or on the picture to download it.
